Getting Around Martha's Vineyard With a Group
Walk the core, taxi with bags, check transit before you assume city buses. Meeting points matter.
How groups actually move
Downtown cores are walkable. Beaches and Up-Island are not "we'll figure it out." Agree on modes before Saturday morning.
Modes that work
- Walking in downtown cores — flats beat heels on cobblestones.
- Taxis/rides for short hops when bags or timing matter.
- Island transit where routes align — check schedules; do not assume city frequency.
- Bikes for confident riders only; not everyone will want hills or traffic.
Agree on a meeting point when splitting; cell service can be spotty on beaches. Car question still open? car or no car. Ferry still fuzzy? ferry guide.
